Novo Synergy Project

Finding Antimicrobial Drugs From Social Spiders

2017.02.07 | Jacob Søndergaard Ramsay

Thomas Vosegaard is part of a collaboration with Trine Bilde and Andreas Scramm from the Department of Bioscience and Michael Lalk from the University of Greifswald to develop novel antimicrobial drugs from social spiders through a 15 mill kr Synergy Project with the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The hypothesis is that due to their complete inbreeding, the social spiders must be highly dependent on a “microbial defense system” against pathogens, and thus may be an especially rich source of novel antimicrobials.
