School on Materials Research with Synchrotron, Neutron, XFEL & Electron Sources

This engaging summer school is designed for potential young users at the new ESS and MAX IV facilities in Lund. The school will teach a wide range of techniques and methodologies used within materials research at large-scale particle accelerator facilities.

The success of the previous summer school in 2018 has enabled us to attract a significant number of high-profile experts from both Danish research institutions and international facilities (see program). The program also allows for a full-day excursion to the DESY facility in Hamburg to give participants an opportunity to visit a working synchrotron and XFEL facility. Not only does the location of the summer school at Sandbjerg enable an excursion to a facility like DESY (only 2 hrs away), it is also conveniently placed for students to participate from across Denmark where we can meet and network in an excellent environment.

Aimed at young materials researchers at all academic levels, this school is conceived as a ’Nordic’ counterpart to the popular HERCULES course held at ESRF/ILL in Grenoble every year, and offers a 2 ECTS equivalent. Students connected to groups in the SMART consortium are encouraged to apply, and applications from GTS institutes and industry outside of the consortium are also very welcome to apply.
