Molecular Magnetism

Background

The research in molecular magnetism at the Department of Chemistry at AU is led by Jacob Overgaard

The focus of the research in his group is magnetic anisotropy, which causes the spectacular magnetic properties exhibited by single-molecule magnets. We have in the group particular researched the exploitation of diffraction-based methods, using both X-rays and neutrons, to develop new and better quantitative characterisation of magnetic anisotropy. In addition to the central diffraction-based tools, we also employ advanced synthesis of new materials, measure magnetic properties in the solid state using a PPMS, carry out multiconfigurational calculations, or study structural properties in the excited states using both high pressure and light excitation with lasers.
