Research centres

A number of large research centres are associated with the Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University. Several of these are so-called Centers of Excellence, which are supported by the Danish National Research Foundation, based on their top-level research.

Present research centres and major projects

Major projects:

  • Dynamic Crystallography - funded by Villum Investigator
  • Enabling Technologies for a Sustainable Future: Ionic Liquids as Transformative Tools in Nanomaterials Synthesis - funded by Villum Investigator
  • Green Catalysis - funded by Villum Investigator
  • Imaging the Primary Steps of Chemical Reactions - funded by Villum Investigator

Former research centres

  • Center for Energy Materials (CEM) - Center of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation
  • Center for Catalysis - Center of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation
  • Center for Materials Crystallography (CMC) - Center of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation
  • Center for Oxygen Microscopy & Imaging (COMI), funded by the Danish National Research Foundation
  • Centre for DNA Nanotechnology (CDNA) - Center of Excellence, funded by the Danish National Research Foundation
  • Center for Thermoelectric Energy Conversion (CTEC) - funded by Innovation Fund Denmark
  • Instrument Center for Solid State NMR Spectroscopy - funded by the National Committee for Research Infrastructure (Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science) through the programme Danish Roadmap for Research Infrastructures

Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO)

iNANO is associated with some of the research groups at the department, especially those that conduct interdisciplinary research.
