Abstract:
Quasielastic Neutron Scattering (QENS) is powerful tool when it comes to studies of diffusional and reorientational dynamics, this is especially true for dynamics of hydrogen as well as hydrogen containing molecules and complex ions.
In this presentation I will give a brief introduction to QENS, which will cover the topics: how QENS works, what kind of research questions can be answered using QENS, what advantages QENS offers compared to other techniques, and what material systems and samples that are suitable for QENS studies.
I will end by showing examples from my own research where QENS has been utilized to answer questions about the local structure and ionic transport in hydride materials.
