Atmospheric Physical Chemistry

Aerosols are ever-present and influence both climate and human health. In the most recent climate report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), aerosols and clouds are deemed the largest uncertainty when it comes to predicting climate. Our research focuses on atmospheric physical chemistry, i.e. how aerosols form and grow, and the properties they possess. 

We use different methods to study aerosols, e.g. an atmospheric simulation chamber, where snippets of the atmosphere are simulated and different gases and their aerosol formation properties are studied. We also have a custom-built sea spray tank to investigate how particles form from the ocean when waves are breaking. We measure the particle size and number and can in that way estimate how these particles affect the climate.
