Research

My group explores the intrinsic photophysics of isolated molecular ions in vacuo using state-of-the-art equipment. We have designed and built two setups for fluorescence spectroscopy of mass-selected ions, LUNA (LUminescence iNstrument in Aarhus) and LUNA2, the latter operating at cryogenic temperatures. As an example, we have revealed the true color of oxyluciferin, the molecular anion responsible for light emission from fireflies, click beetles, and railroad worms.
