Our research combines chemical synthesis with biocatalysis. Our goal is to develop efficient and more sustainable synthetic routes to bioactive molecules.
Nature still is our main source and inspiration for the development of medicine. We often use chemical synthesis to produce and modify structures found in nature in order to adapt their properties and bioactivities. Since they are derived from nature, we can also draw inspiration from the way these molecules are biosynthesized – using nature's catalysts: enzymes. Our approach to the synthesis of bioactive molecules harnesses enzymes to enable transformations that are impossible using chemical methods, and thus develop more sustainable synthetic routes.
