Abstract:
The crystalline structures of many technologically important functional materials are inherently imperfect and often exhibit significant structural flexibility. In many cases, this disorder is not random but spatially correlated, playing a decisive role in determining material properties. In this talk, I will demonstrate how single-crystal diffuse scattering serves as a powerful tool for quantifying correlated disorder at the atomic scale. Three representative case studies will be presented, showing how specific structural correlations are directly linked to key functional behaviors, such as ionic conductivity.
