Talk by Associate Professor Tina Santl-Temkiv

Associate Professor Tina Santl-Temkiv gave a talk at a C3 seminar on marine sources of ice-nucleating proteins in the Arctic and their impact on Atmospheric Processes. She highlighted that terrestrial runoff in Greenland during the melt season introduces unusually high INP concentrations to fjords, while in open seas, INPs increase with latitude and are not tightly linked to phytoplankton blooms. The increased INP is likely released from melting sea ice, where INPs are produced by heterotrophic bacteria during early ice formation. She underlines the importance of marine and sea-ice microorganisms and how they are underappreciated in Arctic cloud formation.
