Abstract:
Biological membranes are hubs of activity, controlling transport of specific compounds in and out of cells, directing communication within and between cells, and as sites of energy generation. Moreover, membranes are comprised of a vast array of diverse lipid types and are crowded with proteins. These components need to be exquisitely organised to enable the membrane to function optimally. I will talk about how we can use molecular modelling to investigate the molecular interactions that underpin the dynamic organisation of membranes, and to understand the structure and function of membrane proteins.
